Internet fastest growing advertising medium

According to figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), Internet Marketing continues to grow with 40.3% like-for-like annual growth recorded in the first 6 months of 2006. The new findings show that in just six months online advertising expenditure has reached nearly £1 billion and looks set to overtake spending on national press advertising before the end of 2006. Online is the fastest growing advertising medium in the UK, with a market share of 10.5% for the period January to June 2006, compared to 7.3% for the same period last year. This takes online advertising to within one percentage point of national press, which recorded an 11.4% share for the first half of 2006. Whilst TV, press, radio, and direct mail have all experienced declining revenues in the past six months, online has buoyed the advertising market by contributing an additional £284 million to total UK advertising revenues. These figures clearly show the increasing importance of online as an advertising medium in the UK. With over 30 million households now connected to broadband and online accounting for more than 20% of all media consumed in the household, the rise in online advertising spend seems set to continue.
